My employer wants all employees to download a free app called Homebase to view our schedule. The permissions look shady AF, allow tracking and “monitoring of paid and unpaid breaks” among other things.
I’ve worked the same schedule for a decade, so I was quite shocked when a coworker informed me that one of my shifts had been given away to the newest hire.
We do not actually have a need for this app… this is a bar, and I don’t get any breaks, paid or otherwise, because I don’t smoke. When I asked why my shift had been taken, they told me that downloading the app is a “condition of employment”. Is this actually legal? I don’t particularly want to quit or be fired, but this guy is definitely out to get me. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer!
