Ever get attitude for asking about pay rate?

I interned for a radio station when I was finishing college. They had an open position and asked me to apply. It was extremely fun work. We’d go to locations and do games and prize tables with some of the personalities. I loved it. After I interviewed they asked me if I would take the job. I was planning a move in about 6 months which still was tentative, so I wanted to make sure I would get paid enough to save. I also had another job lined up closer to home so my thoughts were gas and car repairs. I asked what the pay was and their tone changed.
