I interned for a radio station when I was finishing college. They had an open position and asked me to apply. It was extremely fun work. We’d go to locations and do games and prize tables with some of the personalities. I loved it. After I interviewed they asked me if I would take the job. I was planning a move in about 6 months which still was tentative, so I wanted to make sure I would get paid enough to save. I also had another job lined up closer to home so my thoughts were gas and car repairs. I asked what the pay was and their tone changed. I was no longer the potential employee they were all excited to have on board. I pissed them off. All for 10/hr (in 2012). I didn’t take the job. I’d spend nearly 100 a week in gas out of a 400 paycheck. The guy hiring me was probably 28. But the mindset even 10 years ago was so ingrained in him.
