Fairly sure I’ve been strung along by my company for months now and I feel like an idiot for not seeing it.

I'm beyond pissed right now. I recently turned 26 and at the end of the month will be off my father's health insurance. I had prepared for this half a year in advance by speaking with my boss to make sure that I'd be able to hop onto my company's insurance plan once enrollment came around. I was told multiple times that he was looking into it and that I should be good to go once the enrollment period opened. I was under the impression that by May I would be able to enroll and go about with my regular doctor's visits. I have several medications that absolutely need a prescription and each visit uninsured is $150 at least. That's without blood work or other tests. Meds can be range from $80-$100 or more uninsured. But I wasn't stressing as, according to my boss, I should be good to hop…

I have several medications that absolutely need a prescription and each visit uninsured is $150 at least. That's without blood work or other tests. Meds can be range from $80-$100 or more uninsured. But I wasn't stressing as, according to my boss, I should be good to hop on insurance come May.

Today he told me that I actually am not eligible for the insurance and I will have to figure something else out. I am pissed because I've been asking for updates about this since October and either A) He waited til very recently to actually look into the policy or B) He knew that I wouldn't be eligible and held it for as long as possible to squeeze as much labor out of me before I'd leave. Either way, I feel absolutely disrespected and taken advantage of. I'm also upset because I really like the job, my coworkers, and I thought I had a really good relationship with my boss.

That's party why I feel stupid. I feel like I should have seen the wishy washy answers for what they were and been more dogged about it. On top of the insurance thing, Ive asked for a raise several times and been given a “We'll see” which I foolishly layed down and took. It's funny too because I'm such a huge proponent of labor rights for friends and family, but apparently I couldn't see myself getting taken advantage of.

I have a couple of friends with decent paying full time jobs who have positions open in their work places, and have insurance, so I should be ok in a few months. This is just so frustrating and I needed to vent. Thanks Reddit.

TL;DR: Boss either witheld information or neglected to obtain information pertaining to company insurance. Have to now scramble to figure out what to do to get myself covered.
