Finally getting my last paycheck over a year later

In summer 2021 I had a job which I had to leave abruptly due to a serious health issue. My manager denied that the final paycheck I had seen in their app of $400 existed, and stated nothing had arrived for me. I was 19, naive, sick, and didn’t have it in me to fight so I just decided maybe it was a mistake. Fast forward a year, the company sends me a letter about unclaimed property in that amount, check number and all.

They state that I have to send x info to them or the funds will be remitted to the state on a date 1 week from when I received the letter. And it will take them 6-8 weeks to get back to me when I submit the info. I submit it immediately anyway.

This was in August, and I never heard back from them. After 8 weeks I emailed again and it went unanswered. At this point I started checking & inquiring with my state’s unclaimed property website, to get my money once they had it since I was sure I wasn’t getting it from my employer. Yesterday I did my check and it was there! I submitted my info to confirm it was mine and almost immediately got an email saying a check would be mailed to me in 1-2 weeks, lol. idk if this was incompetence or deliberate on my employer’s part but I’m glad I’m getting my money lmao.
