So, first, I’m sorry if this doesn’t quite fit. I’m really at a loss right now and need some confirmation that I’m not actually insane and the people that run this company are complete morons. (or maybe I am insane, I can handle that too).
So some quick background info: I work for a smaller nonprofit in a large city. We do various things, but primarily market ourselves as youth development. I do communications, photo/video editing, content creation, graphic design, social media, and website support among others. I was hired as an intern early-2019, and full-time mid-2019. I’ve felt severely underpaid & undervalued since starting, however, I accepted it as a nonprofit and kept on going.
4 years later, we are undergoing some changes and a bunch of people (who were just promoted last year) are being promoted again as well as the creation of EIGHT new full time positions.
I’ve been begging my leadership for full-time help for the last 3 years and a promotion for the last 2 years. I finally got promoted but it’s one small step up whereas I was expecting a larger step. Oh, and it’s not even effective for another month and a half.
TLDR: My nonprofit org is hiring 8 new full time people and promoting a bunch of people (who have been recently promoted already). I’ve been practically begging (gross, ikr) for full time help and a raise/promotion for the last 2-3 years. I truly go above and beyond most times. What am I doing wrong? Are these people just assholes?
