A few years ago, I worked for a company out west. When I interviewed, it sounded like I would be a member of a team. The team was me. That was it, and my boss was a bit of an ass. Well, early on, I decided I was going to consider other opportunities. He found out and made my life hell – he told me right away I could quit or he would fire me eventually. I figured I would stick it out. I at least had a decent paycheck and it was allowing me to build up enough savings to cover relocating.
So the firing. There was a routine task that he insisted had to be done manually. The process was complicated and his directions were inadequate. The first time I attempted the task, I messed it up.
After that first time he gave me written instructions to never do the task again. Ok. It wasn’t something I was excited about doing anyway so I was able to focus on the tasks I was hired to do.
A few weeks later I was called into his office and I was fired. His reasoning was because I did not complete the task he told specifically that I was not to complete. I got wind of it, so I had a copy of the email handy. I also had copies of emails he had made vulgar remarks about female coworkers. When I handed in my phone and badge, I handed in the emails and told them to do what they wanted with the info. They haven’t done anything to my knowledge. Guess that is the environment the want.
