I had met w our HR rep several times to discuss how my position responsibilities had changed (basically absorbed another employee’s entire work load after they left without any increase in compensation or adjustment to my previous (& full time position’s) original duties). I had tried before to meet w my immediate supervisor to talk about how it was difficult to have the expectation for me to do what was the equivalent of two full time positions in the time frames they expected, even with me skipping lunch & working straight 11+ hr days on a regular basis.
My boss brought me into her office to ask why it seemed as though I ‘had a chip on my shoulder’, during which I explained that I needed help w some basic administrative things, & that my office mate had plenty of time between her basic tasks.
Instead of taking in what I had said would help, she explained that she wanted me to be happy to come to work. She then asked if I had a boyfriend. I said yes. She said that my boyfriend ‘isn’t going to want to spend time with me’ if I come home & am complaining/unhappy about my job. It was extremely uncomfortable.
I was called into a second one on one with my boss a few days, which was more similar to an interrogation than a regular ‘meeting’. The next time she asked me to come to her office, I told her that I wasn’t comfortable speaking to her alone without someone else present.
It was said objectively & meant only in the sense that I didn’t feel as though I should have to compromise my own comfort as an employee just to meet her need to corner me individually in private.
Was called into a meeting yesterday w HR & said manager, even though I had sent multiple emails to HR requesting to cancel/reschedule the meeting bc of not being comfortable talking with my boss & fear of reprisal. Was then sent home the rest of the afternoon ‘to think about things’, & was surprised first thing this morning with a Follow Up meeting, during which I was fired, effective immediately.
TL;DR: My supervisor made me feel uncomfortable meeting with her privately in her office, including asking whether or not I had a partner & involving that in her discussion. I told my boss & HR I didn’t feel comfortable speaking to my boss individually, along with other concerns of my position. Was fired immediately.
Is this kind of shit allowed/legal?? I work in a state where, unless there is a contract signed, ‘an employee can be fired for a good reason, no reason, or even reasons morally questionable
EDIT: Why tf was I ever under the impression that HR was there to help the employee vs. the company?
EDIT: It was HR that had scheduled the penultimate with them, myself & my boss. I did not try to cancel a meeting my boss had scheduled herself. I was told during that same meeting by my boss that she had ‘been actively avoiding’ me for some time
EDIT: My friend who lives out of state sent me this review last night. sounds like this garbage company is a habitual line-stepperhttps://imgur.com/a/5skk5RX
