I just got fired after being hired 2 months ago because apparently it seemed like I wasn’t enjoying the job which I absolutely was and apparently I have an attitude problem. I was on my 90 day probation period but I had gotten a review two weeks ago which was glowing. Nothing negative, nothing to indicate that there was any problems. Last week Thursday was told an hour before the end of work that a toilet wasn’t flushing I worked as a public works employee hired as building maintenance but was moved to streets till I got the hang of things and after my review was told that I was to work as building maintenance and helping the streets dept. which is wildly understaffed so I get to the admin office and inquired which toilet wasn’t flushing and fixed and I was then told that everyone knew that it wasn’t flushing that morning at about 8 am by our janitor. Which I was super frustrated because we all have phones and emails and no one deemed it important to inform me until the end of the day to fix it, so I vented my frustration about the lack of communication and that things like that shouldn’t wait this long if it needs to get fixed. So today my director and the administrator show up to our shop and call me for a meeting and just dropped it that I’m being terminated for not seeming to enjoying the job and an attitude problem. I tell them that no I do really enjoy my job, I’ve never indicated that I didn’t and that Im sorry if it seems like I have a bad attitude I didn’t mean to and that it won’t happen again and I’ll be sure to work on it. They then say no it’s been decided your terminated. no corrective action, no warming, no slap on the hand, no this is the only warning don’t let it happen again. Just a fuck you don’t finish your day. I get that I was on probation and they honestly can do whatever they choose to do but I would have rather been fired for a poor review, not doing my duties, not coming into work, being difficult to work with anything.
