Forced overtime and no notice

I work in a union steel mill. Every Wednesday they post the schedule for the following week. They never tell us until that Wednesday if we will be working the weekends. Usually, it’s just Saturday work and I don’t mind the OT. 7a-3p. We worked 7 days last week and then this week when the schedule was posted, I found out I am working Saturday, Sunday and Monday 3 am to 3 pm then Tuesday-Friday 7a to 5p. I requested Friday off for my partner getting wisdom teeth pulled, and they still scheduled me. So now I have to find someone to cover my shift in maintenance for next Friday.

If I didn’t need the insurance for their procedure, I wouldn’t have came back today. The shop is union, but it has got to be the most walked over union I’ve been in. My last job was non-union and was better than this. None of the other workers will stand up to this and it keeps happening. Come my next day off this Thursday, I will have worked 18 days straight and worked 55 hours of overtime. Being blue collar, since the pandemic I have been overworked and I’m not sure if it will ever get better. Very frustrating and tiring. End rant.
