Former boss railroaded me

I work in IT at a financial institution where everything started off great at first. They hired 10 people alone for my team which I thought was great and that the company was expanding. Within 6 months or so. I started to notice we were all hired essentially to do ” project based work” that they haven't touched in YEARS… Ok fine. I'll do the needful. That's what I was hired to do. I still wonder how they passed auditors?? ( They lacked any real documentation on processes or segregation of duties) Now to the good part… Me and my prior boss in the beginning found common interests outside of work and in the beginning it felt like he was becoming a ” friend”. I still wonder how they passed auditors?? ( They lacked any real documentation on processes or segregation of duties)

Now to the good part… Me and my prior boss in the beginning found common interests outside of work and in the beginning it felt like he was becoming a ” friend”. Then it seems all of sudden something changed. Admittingly, our environment is stressful as were managing systems and general email inbox que from other employees and managers. Sometimes it's impossible to keep up. I have a gut feeling I overlooked a important email and this is what caused a fracture in our relationship and for him to turn against me. Fast forward to our 1 on 1 meetings. Him being a passive aggressive guy he wasn't one for communicating issues or bringing things to attention unless they were dire. I knew something was wrong but opted not to bring it up and let him disclose it first. Which he never did.

I did alot of technical work for them. The quality of my work was such, that I tackled and did projects that other co-workers who were hired around the same time as me couldn't do or didn't attempt. I was doing scripting, editing programming language. Cleaning up old groups that were orphans or no longer used anymore. Basically it was a integration project for a new system.

Fast forward to my first company review. He marks me down files a bad review for ” Poor communication”. Because of that, I wasn't eligible for promotions, etc. I sitting there rather stunned thinking ” you actually filed this in my review?”. The rest of my review was fine. He also disclosed I was being re-assigned to another team that did more ” project based work”. You've got to be kidding me, I thought.

To make matters worse. The other team which i'll refer to as ” project based work”. Has a new manager to the company. In terms of his knowledge of the company he is very green and new, especially navigating the inner works of politics. But very motivated to overachieve and enthusiastic.

His first impression of me was look at the file with the bad review and asked me what that situation was about? The new boss is a major micro manager and I can do 10x good things and he'll highlight any mistakes i've made and rambles on about how ” Need to improve for the upcoming review”. I'm also excluded from any promotional meetings, where the rest of my co-workers aren't. I feel like a outcast banished outside the city wall to live in the forest or something.

In addition my former boss won't sign off a project that dependent on his approval and when cc'd in a email won't respond unless its a zoom meeting which he accepts last minute.

I can't help but feel that my future is limited at this company anymore. I'm in the process of applying for other jobs and getting ready to jump ship. I have the option of fighting the poor review with HR, but I see that as a futile attempt.

TLDR.

Former boss railroaded me into a more junior position and now my new boss is micromanaging everything I do to the point where it's miserable. Any work I do that's good seemingly is overlooked for negative mistakes.
