I have a friend who is working off the books making $17 an hour as a custodian for a high profile school in NYC. She recently got her citizenship and requested to be converted to on the books to build her credit. Not only did they not give her an answer, they handed her last check and terminated her effectively immediately.
What can she do to protect herself in this situation? Does she have a case with DOL or lawyers? Any information will help as Google provided nothing on this specific subject.
