gf losing job over bosses granddaughter?

Im not sure what the outcome of this will be but heres some context. Gf (24f) works at a preschool and has for two years. Relatively well liked by coworkers and parents and does a good job. This year they hired a new girl ill refer to as BG. Gf (24f) works at a preschool and has for two years. Relatively well liked by coworkers and parents and does a good job. This year they hired a new girl ill refer to as BG. BG is 18, has none of the certification needed for the job, takes her lunch without consideration of anyone elses, and generally just does whatever she likes with no regard of any rules due to her relationship to the owner.
Today gf went to leave work to pick up our two kids from their daycare as she does every day and couldnt leave her class until BG arrived to cover. BG was late and in turn GF got irritated and asked her if she could try to hurry up next time as our kids daycare closes shortly after she leaves to go get them. BG got mad and proceeded to yell at GF while calling her a variety of names and curse words while infront of kids and parents. GF broke down and left.
Now GF is recieving texts from the owner regarding if she will be “punished” or just let go. Is this type of situation even legal in california? And if gf loses job, is there any type of action to take?
