Has something like this ever happened to anyone else? My girlfriend was hired as an Early Childhood teacher at a nice school about three weeks ago. Our daughter was even allowed to attend this (expensive) school with a reduced tuition due to my girlfriend being a teacher there. They started the school and both loved it, especially my daughter. She made friends and had a good time.
Two days after starting, my girlfriend got very sick with the flu. So sick she could not even get out of bed. Our daughter was sick too but not as bad. My girlfriend informed her job (the school) about what was going on and they told her she needed to get a doctor’s note. So I took her to the doctor and we got one.
Her doctor recommended taking the whole week off work due to how sick she was. It was a particularly bad flu that got everyone in our family pretty sick, with my mom even having to go to the hospital (but she’s ok now).
So my girlfriend sends the school the doctor’s note which has the date the doctor recommended to return to work. She even sent a message thanking the school admin for understanding the seriousness and that she was looking forward to going back.
The only response she got was “You need to be gone that long?” To which my girlfriend responded yes because she was very sick and her doctor recommended it.
She never got a response.
Sunday is when the school posts the employee schedule. Sunday came and she wasn’t on the schedule. She messaged and asked why and got no response. A few days later, we went there to get my daughter’s stuff she had left. Her teacher said she was told my daughter wouldn’t be returning and to gather her stuff and that’s all.
Today, we had to tell our daughter she couldn’t go to that school anymore (she had asked why she hadn’t been there in a few days). She cried so much and said she would miss her friend she made there. My daughter is 5 and was basically also ghosted out of a preschool.She’s been so upset.
So my girlfriend will now seek other opportunities. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it even legal? I’ve just never heard of a job ghosting anyone before.
