Worked at this place for 2 years and 10 months. Blue collar manufacturing job. Within 2 years I went from $19 to $24.50. I was a great worker who was recognized. Great job except… For their attendance policy / point system.
I got stuck in traffic the other day because of new road work. Sitting there knowing well this is it.
4 minutes late. Got pulled into HR 2 hours into my shift.. Asked about my recent call offs. Yea I've called off 4 times in the last 6 months. Shit happens. HR person is sitting there with a printed out calendar with my call offs highlighted. They asked me if something was going on in my personal life because I only called off ONE FUCKING TIME THE ENTIRETY OF LAST YEAR.
At this point I knew I was expected to grovel and beg to keep my job. THIS IS WHERE ITS MY FAULT BECAUSE I DIDN'T PLAY THE GAME. Showed them the numbers.
“My attendance rate is 99% if you don't count the overtime / forced weekends you lied about when I was hired. If you do my attendance is over 110%.”
I was firm and told them this whole situation could be mitigated if you just offered sick days.
“But you got one extra floating holiday this year!”
I SAID YES THAT DOESN'T HELP ME NOW AND THE CRUMBS ARE DELICIOUS.
“Well I've only called of twice in 15 years”
THAT'S NOT THE FLEX YOU THINK IT IS.
“Ohh you've been spoiled having sick days at your previous jobs.”
I'M NOT SPOILED I JUST KNOW YOUR POLICY IS COUNTER PRODUCTIVE AND THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM. (this is probably what got me canned)
The first time I've ever used unprofessional language to someone in management. I didn't yell or anything but said what I had to say. I made my bed and I'll lie in it. Looking at 3 different jobs paying more for less experience. It felt good. Sorry for the rant. Had to get it out.
