I was offered a position at a recovery center as a case worker and counselor. I thought it was the opprotunity I've been waiting for. I don't have any type of degree but I have worked in mental health for over a decade and figured I would be a great fit for the job. It would be difficult. Case work AND running group therapy sessions as well as one on one when needed.
I told the recruiter I needed to make 1500 per paycheck bare minimum. As this would be a 9-5 M-F type gig I wanted to give it all my energy and not have to have a second job. And seeing as how a one bedroom apartment is around 1000 it's what I would need to show a complex rent would not surpass 1/3 of my monthly take in. Right now I survive on constant overtime at the hospital I work at and make between that and 2000 per paycheck on average.
I was told in no uncertain terms, “You will not make anything near that here.”
So case work. Plus individual AND group therapy sessions. Without a degree(is this not practicing without a license? Don't you need a masters? Or at least a bachelor's to be a case worker!?!?). For a wage that In and Out can beat?
Feels like I'll never make it.
