You all gave me further reassurance that I am making the right decision. I decided to work the 2 weeks, despite having zero reason to, but I want to be a man of my word, even though it makes me suffer a little longer. This past week has only gotten worse as far as toxicity goes, and the work load has gone up. I have agreed with my co worker that we would be each others reference for any future employment, while also contacting previous employees regarding this matter, they have experienced similar abuse.
I am planning to report the restaurant to the local health department and department of labor. At my restaurant all tips goes to management, all! Unless we find a way to pocket them ourselves, I heard stories of one employee pocketing a few dollar tip, my manager screamed at him even causing him to cry. We are paid minimum wage working in conditions without air conditioning or heat at times, while being forced to serve food that most wouldn’t retrieve from the dumbest for its state. Not sure of my next steps, but I want to find a way to retrieve tips over the past 2 years but I want to find a way.
Speaking with employees who are currently working, they plan to quit soon, causing a domino effect on the toxic management, having the sexist male manager making comments about female employees in the bathroom. While also finding extreme racist comments previously posted on social media from one of my managers, stomach turning stuff.
On Saturday, my manager decided to ask a lot nicer to me, asking about my plans after giving me radio silence for an entire week, my co worker speculated that she wants me to stay longer than just the 2 weeks. But having my new internship paying almost double what I’m getting now, and opens the door for more jobs in the future, I won’t spend anymore time that I have to there.
