Health insurance is such a scam and should not be tied to employment

I have been suffering from a spinal injury since last year, but was primarily bedridden from it during Jan-Mar, with the ability to return to work (WFH) in April with restrictions. Short term disability has been a royal pain in the ass and I haven’t been paid since Feb. They denied my claim from mid Feb on and told me I needed to see my doctor again to be able to appeal. My doctor agreed again that I needed to be out of work during that time and submitted the necessary paperwork. Well, MetLife got back to me and said their own physician took a look at my records and decided I am not eligible for pay. That’s a looong time not be paid, and they made me waste money on a doctor visit! I’ve been paying for insurance through my employer and when I actually need to use it…

I’ve been paying for insurance through my employer and when I actually need to use it they deny it anyway! My partner just lost his job due to layoffs and I have to add him to my insurance now, which jumps up my monthly price to over $600, which is over a 200% increase just to add one person to my plan. And for what?

It is so messed up that we as a country have to deal with this.
