Hello fellow Redditors. My sibling (26) was hired at a non-profit foundation as a fundraiser after being recruited from a marketing group within in the same organization. As noted his boss knew he was lacking in procedures and extensive knowledge of this field. After two months his employer made it known that he doesn’t appear to be making the grade, however, sibling has asked for assistance and training only to be met with resistance and talking down to him with statements of the sort that ”you should already have this knowledge of procedures with fundraising so figure it out.” Additionally, they continue to berate and tell him that he needs to be more assertive and make decisions on his own because they can’t hold his hand. However when he does take the initiative he is told he is not making the right decision and is again told he not doing thriving at this job.
Brother had one on one with boss to review work and when he raised concerns regarding lack of training, knowledge and support he was met with aggressiveness about his lack of effectiveness with assigned tasks. Again he mentioned that he was thrown into the fire with minimal training and continually gets pushback when he asks questions.
I gave him the following advice:
document every conversation.
Communicate via email so you have a record.
Continue to request training at all cost when dealing with unknown information.
Meet with HR (I know they are there to protect employer) but I believe if they have previous knowledge that documentation could be critical if they begin sanctions.
Am I missing anything? Thanks in advance.
