Hi yall!
So like the post title, i was recently hired by one of those free standing medical clinicals back in late december and onboarded early january. I had concerns when interviewing that the position didnt make sense. They needed techs for overnight shift 11p-7a x5 days. I asked the manager what the patient volume was like and he said maybe 1-2 patients per night. The position paid well and i thought to myself if the patient load doesnt justify the position, this was weird to be hiring. I was assured by the manager everything was on the up and up and they were growing and opening new locations, therfore no reasons to be suspicious. Red flag there but i accepted anyway. This position was interesting because you had to do the normal Tech stuff+run poc labs/QA the machines+check patients in via front desk.
Fast forward to last week and i noticed some of my scheduled shifts started disappearing. I reached out to the supervisor to inquire as to why and got crickets. Last night the supervisor called me and informed that they were doing away with my position and closing 2 locations and would i like to remain PRN (as needed to fill in shift gaps and coverage). I was taken aback like why would you all hire at least 10 of us this very month just to let us go? He agreed it wasnt the best decision but tried to gaslight by stating ” at least were offering you PRN. There were other techs we just said goodbye to but since we know youre a hardworker and everyone has nothing but good things to say about you, we decided to offer you this option”. Yeaaaa ok buddy. I was scheduled to work throught the rest of the week but was told to just come in Tuesday- Thursday night. I said ok because i still need the money but im over here applying to hospitals again because at least theyre stable and dont “shut down”. I cant see myself staying PRN at this place given these practices. They knew last week or even further back the changes they were quietly implementing and still waited until the last minute. I dont think they deserve me PRN and i will forever be suspicious of them. Ill take my chances working 2 hospitals instead, which thank goodness i still had good rapport at my last hospital to just pick up and keep moving. The pay is less but some income is better than nothing
Shame on me for disregarding that red flag in the interview but i needed the money and it did help me get an apartment when i needed it the most. Anywho, just wanted to vent my frustrations.
*For my fellow ADHD friends, TL;DR
Hired for a new job beginning of the month, then told as of this week they are doing away with my position. What crappy business practices.
Please excuse any typos, on my phone typing this.
