Horrible coworker is being considered for assistant manager alongside me- what do I do?

I have been working at this place for a year and I have taken on increasing responsibilities for the same amount of pay, many of the responsibilities our manager passed on to me because she had a lot on her plate. There has been talk about an assistant manager and I have made it clear I would like to be considered to both our owner and manager however the manager has been favouring this god awful new hire. I’m not even saying this because she’s like my competition for this role. She is horrible. She refuses to clean anything despite being on the cleaning list for this month. There has been talk about an assistant manager and I have made it clear I would like to be considered to both our owner and manager however the manager has been favouring this god awful new hire.

I’m not even saying this because she’s like my competition for this role. She is horrible. She refuses to clean anything despite being on the cleaning list for this month. She purposely makes customers mad and refuses warranties when we have a great warranty policy we never say no to unless the warranty is expired. She gets many complaints and bad reviews to her name but starts crying when she is at fault to look like the victim.

We had customers harass us for a month leaving us bad reviews on every platform possible because she snatched the product from the customers hands and refused to warranty while it was still in its warranty dates.

I can go on and on she talks shit constantly about the other staff and even to our faces. She told a coworker who’s cousin got cancer that people who have cancer aren’t strong enough to fight it and that’s why they die. She also supports trump. Despite everything. I have tried to talk to her and reason with her but it backfired since after she talked shitt about me to the manager.

So why is she being favoured when many people before her have been fired for virtually nothing? And why is she being considered for the assistant manager role? What am I doing wrong. How do I make them see? I have more potential than this and her in my eyes. Maybe I’m delusional. But I have been here longer, know more, and do more than her. Should I start sucking up to the management like she does?
