Hey what's up everyone, I'm curious as to how any of us here have potentially started union talks etc. I'm working at a Ca hospital as a nurse. The pay is competitive, management is decent at best and the benefits were good until about a year ago. The hospital has been around for awhile and many nurses have their 10+ years but it feels like things have begun a downturn with a new CFO making drastic cuts. We had a wonderful HMO or PPO option with competitive rates but without our knowledge or vote they decided that last year during open enrollment they would cancel all the greats benefits we had an only offer a PPO options. Long story short I paid over $1,500 for an MRI which was done at the radiology dept which I work at as a nurse!!! It's the general consensus that we need to strike to get the attention of the upper management however with all these rumblings of disappointment in staff I'm concerned about sticking my neck out….I've seen what hospitals do to people bringing up unions lol. I could go on and on about their OT policies and work loads but I'll leave it there for sake of length. I have tried to address this with HR, their response is “yes we know a lot of employees are not happy”. The hospital system owns three hospitals in the area but only one has a union.
TLDR; hospital employees are being treated like crap, management could careless so employees want a union
