Major hospital in Reno Nevada announced a few months back a huge deficit (like over $100 million). So they froze everything: hiring, wages, merits, promotions, even the 401(k) matching. They would revisit in 2023. Well, yesterday out of the blue a meeting was held and most of the IT staff were told that their entire function would be outsourced as of January 1. The hospital contracted with a company and it will save them $9 million over 3 years (pennies). But don’t worry, staff will be offered contracts with this new company. No, they don’t know what the pay will be. No, they don’t know what their benefits are. Oh, because of policy, everyone will lose any of their accrued PTO. Oops. Been with the company for decades…there goes your longevity. If you choose to not take the contract, they will consider this your resignation so you will not be eligible for unemployment (unethical and possibly illegal). Yes, the contract is already signed so the deal is done, but we don’t have any details for you guys. And the kicker, higher-ups we’re just going to send an email informing staff. Their manager (who is outsourced with them) demanded they do a face-to-face with the staff. My friend and 2 dozen other families are affected. Merry f*ing Christmas.
