Tl;dr how do I tell my superiors we want a Christmas bonus in a way that might convince them.
I have a quarterly meeting today with my whole department. I work in a very profitable stainless steel shop, about 500 employees. Just in my department we make at the very least a million dollars every single month, I think 17 million last year. I want to bring up a Christmas bonus and frame it in a way that won’t sound like I’m begging and might actually get their attention. We get a bonus but it’s based on how much the company earns and the amount we have to make to get anything increases every year so we are just barely outside the target. My commie brain says “we are entitled to at the very least some portion of what we make for the company. It’s painful to see every month that what is paid out to employees for payroll is dwarfed by the huge number made in profit. Our capacity to make more money for the company doesn’t increase every year and it is so clear that the reason our goal increases isn’t to promote harder more efficient work it’s to ensure the company never pays us what we’re worth. To give every single person in the company a huge life changing check that they deserve and have worked hard for wouldn’t put a dent in the bottom line. A thousand or few thousand dollar check might cost a months profit.”
