For the longest time there was a culture that believed taking days off made you a terrible employee unless you were using PTO. As companies begin to “progress”, it seems that more are willing to provide days off. The only jobs I haven’t seen progress are customer facing retail and hospitality.
In my last role for a small company, I was constantly taking unpaid days off but I was “corporate”. Our customer facing people were never given days off unless they had PTO (I swear I advocated for them, my role didn’t deal with those employee rules).
In my new role, with a much larger corporation, … I don’t really know what flexibility looks like to them but I’m hoping it’s the same.
I’m curious if this is just my experience and perception or if we’ve reached a point where going on a week vacation every few months is acceptable.
