I worked for a bus company for 2 years. They were pretty fast and loose and I've posted about some of the more outrageous incidents before. Late last year I took extended leave to look after a sick relative, and the last thing anyone from the company said to me was “we're keen to have you back in the new year when you're settled”. I later found out the company lost the contract for my route, and no one ever contacted me about starting back, so when I was offered a new job once I was available, I took it. My point is I left on good terms, was not fired, just kinda became informally redundant.
Anyway, my issue is this, back when I started with them, they had me pay $70 for a fob that electronically allowed access to the vehicles. I had a problem with this at the time, but needed the job so paid the deposit, on the understanding it would be repaid when I returned the fob. I have a receipt for this payment. Cut to a week ago when I had spare time, cash, and postage materials and I mailed their crap back to them. I know they recieved it, because on Monday they called me to ask what the electronic opener (from my now defunct former route) was for. It's been almost a week, and despite my clear and polite banking instructions sent along with the fob, no refund has shown up in my account.
This doesn't surprise me, but it does piss me off. Obviously I'm not hiring a lawyer over $70, but any help or tips on appropriate letters of demand would be appreciated.
