I work full-time at J1, which is not in my area. I secretly started working part-time at J2 to gain experience in my area. Now I feel it's the time to start looking for another J1 in my area; however, since my J1 doesn't know I work at J2, what is the best approach to update my LinkedIn?
While I think it will open more doors for me if I put J2 on my LinkedIn since the job in in my industry, I am concerned about my peers from J1 seeing I have another job. I don't have any of the people from J1 on my LinkedIn profile, but I'm pretty sure some of them (read HR) might be monitoring me as they know I'm studying in my area and most likely will start looking for other jobs in my area. J1 is a entry-level job that I moved up due to the time I'm at the company, but it has literally nothing to do with my area of expertise and HR knows this.
What I'm trying to avoid here is to get fired from J1 while I'm still looking for another job to replace J1.
J2 cannot cover my expenses for a while if the company 1 decides to let go me before I find another position.
How would you handle this situation?
Also, if someone at company 1 sees my LinkedIn updated, showing J2, and decides to chat with me about it, what would you say if you were in my place?
