I work in a small civil engineering company where “we are a family” is like a morning prayers. Recently one of my co workers who was leading a department (basically buit that team) wanted to leave for a job with 40k additional pay and work from home.My boss (also engineer/owner) has totally lost it with the guy and is threatening him with law suits , calling the new employer to ask them to not poach his guy.Since he put his 2 week notice he fights with him daily and after 8 days of torture that guy said “sue me” and left.My Boss' whole argument is that I taught you everything you will use that for my competitors.
I am in a exact same situation in a different engineering department where I built a team ,established all the procedures and trained everyone. He keeps on telling me how fortunate I am to get this opportunity and all that other stuff.
I am not ungrateful as well and I put my heart and soul in the role but leaving a job for better opportunities is a common and real world thing. He literally treats someone leaving his firm as a divorce and none of the previous “good” employees have left in a positive note.
However in this case he exceed his craziness.
I am planning to leave around November due to personal reasons but I don't want a hassle.I also don't have any problems lying to him about the reasons.
Please give me some advice on this matter.
