I have been a live-in caregiver to an elderly parent for about 5 years and will probably continue for a few more. I do not pay rent (although I could afford it), and have not had a lease in my name for over 10 years. I have good credit, but have always moved in with roommates who already had the lease.
When I look at ads for rentals, a lot of scumbag landlords make a point of stating they want proof of rental history from a non-family member. I am wondering how I can create a rental history for when I need to leave. I dread being punished for caring for another person. Things seem so awful right now I can't imagine leaving, but I have to prepare for the future.
I don't know where else to ask for ideas about this, I figured everyone here would be empathetic, but if it's not allowed I understand.
