Hello r/antiwork!
I work at in retail and noticed some shady stuff going on behind higher-ups like basic theft and messing with the system for unauthorized discounts and credits. So me, being the good noodle, decided to report it to the District Manager.
I mainly did this because I am looking out and protecting myself as I do not want caught up legalities of it. Also, I am looking into getting into a leadership role in this company, so I thought reporting something like this help my cause in this matter…
I was completely wrong. I caught the guy red-handed basically and reported it at the end of the shift. Next shift this coworker comes in, the Store Manager sits down and basically tells him that I snitched on what he was doing and that what he was doing was not OK. Of course, said coworker is pissed at me and now the work environment is edgy and hostile.
I am so upset. Is it legal for HR to basically throw me under the bus and make me feel like the bad when this coworker is doing UNAUTHORIZED (ILLEGAL) things? I feel so betrayed and vulnerable… I truly do feel like a snitch because nothing really came of it except this awkwardness surrounding the work environment.
What should I do to better the situation?
