I asked for a raise and got it, but they want me to be a Independent Contractor now

I’m getting a $3/hr bump up and they want me to be an independent contractor instead of an employee. It’s a small business and I trust the owners to not screw me over purposely. I currently have no benefits, just a very flexible schedule. I live in Indiana so it’s a right to work state. Besides pulling out my own taxes and having to do that now, is there a downside? I would be able to write off a lot of expenses I have so it might make my taxes lower. Anyone have any experience with this?
