I started at a new job at the start of the year and it’s just kind numbingly boring but that’s not the point.
I have a coworker who has been with this company for 17 years. She’s never been giving a promotion, but she gets her yearly $1 an hour raise. She’s making about $75,000 a year right now.
About 10 years into working for the company they opened a new location and transferred all of the people in her position to that facility and offered to help with moving costs. She didn’t want to move so she drives 90 miles both ways to and from work.
She also works the offered 2 hours of overtime every day (starts at 4am) and works every Saturday for 8 hours of over time as well.
Today she showed us her workforce page and she has accumulated 3,500 hours of paid time off. In her 17 years of work she has not taken a single day off. We asked what she is planning on doing with all her PTO and she said she can’t imagine using it, so it will just go to waste when she retires.
Now our supervisors have been pushing Saturday OT, which starts at 4am, so if you want to do that you also have to give up your Friday night. She is the only person that goes to Saturday OT. When supervisors ask us why we don’t go we have tons of reasons but this long time employee tries to give us shit. She says that we are single so we can give up our nights and weekends. To people with kids she says don’t you want to have more money for your kids?
Like fuck no bitch, I want to spend my free time with friends or meeting new people or just relaxing. If I had kids I would want to spend the weekends with them.
All I feel is pity for her family. Her kids must resent the fact that they don’t have a mom essentially.
Can anyone explain this mentality to me?
