Just wanted to see everyone's opinion on this one.
I work in a small department of 4 people that used to consist of 7. Obviously, we are all overworked as we picked up the slack for those no longer there. There is no intention from the company to ever backfill these positions.
Anyways, I was blindsided on one of our Bi-Weekly Teams chats that I would be covering all vacation days. Mind you, we used to use the buddy system and we would pair up with people on the team and then we would cover each other but this came out of the blue. There was no conversation with me that this would be happening. My peers who were also on the call began chatting with me asking if I knew or how I felt about it. The answer was obvious. I have a good working relationship with all my peers as we were a close-knit group. However, what irked me is that no one spoke up on my behalf as I was challenging this and got no answer from my boss why he thought this was O.K.
Another bit of Information. I got thrown into an international position (again never asked if I wanted it just all of a sudden got moved). I was spoon fed the bullshit nonsense that this is where leadership gets made. The reason why this matters is because every time we have a holiday (U.S.) and everybody else is off, I can't take off because I am covering another country. I also can't take off on their holidays. I have to work with my thumb up my ass because everyone else is working (U.S.). Mind you my boss lives in said country that I cover. He takes both that countries holidays and U.S. holidays as since no one else is working he decides he won't either. He's double dipping and he is not supposed to.
All of this information was recently relayed to my HR who agreed this is not right as no one else in any other department has to cover all vacation time. Also, as she stated I should be taking all of my holidays off and my boss should be covering me. She said she was going to fix this. It has been several months now. I also told her about my whole moving to cover this other country as well didn't sit with me as it was never discussed before move was made. I also told her that I was aware too that my boss told one of my peers that I don't do anything which is why i am covering all holidays. I asked HR. “So, Which is it?” “The region is so challenging that this is where leadership gets made or I don't do shit?”
I used to work my ass of for this company before this moron became my manager. Now I do the bare minimum. He wants to say I don't do shit; well, I'm certainly giving it to him now. I'm not doing shit.
