I feel guilty over calling in sick

Hello! The title is probably a bit menacing but that’s genuinely what I need. Today I called out of work due to extreme stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea and dry heaving. I work at a hospital delivering trays to patients so I figured it would be a bad idea, especially considering I get super sick after my double shifts anyways. I work with my boyfriend’s brother and we usually catch rides together. Even though they were originally kind and understood my situation, the boss over the woman I spoke to was apparently fuming to my boyfriend’s brother about how I didn’t call out. This is like my fifth shift and I’ve never been instructed to do anything different in the scenario of calling out. I was told that the woman I called would handle it. Usually on Saturdays we only have 30-40 patients. Today we have 65. My boyfriend’s brother is…

This is like my fifth shift and I’ve never been instructed to do anything different in the scenario of calling out. I was told that the woman I called would handle it.

Usually on Saturdays we only have 30-40 patients. Today we have 65. My boyfriend’s brother is the only one delivering and it feels like everyone is mad at me even though I had no way of knowing how many patients there really were. I’m pretty sensitive to job-related situations so I’m really hurt by this and by the things my boss apparently said about me.

This hospital is so poorly organized it’s laughable. All of the dishwashers sleep in the cafeteria during their shifts, everyone secretly hates each other, the chefs never do their night stocks… it’s chaos.

I love working with my bf’s brother and a lot of the people are actually really nice, but this is such an annoying situation for me to be in.

Can someone give me advice or at least tell me this isn’t my fault?

TIA!
