This happened a long time ago back in 2021 but I worked in Olive Garden as a Line cook. I was 1 out of the 5 cooks that were hired. (It was a 9 person line so we were always understaffed) I actually really loved the Job and enjoyed my time there. The issues only ever involved my co-workers.
I did my job well and got orders out quickly and efficiently. Especially since a lot of the time I had to work up to 4 stations at a time. Either way it didn't bother me. What was my issue was that my workers refused to just simply use proper pronouns and would constantly snicker and talk behind my back but loudly enough so I could heat.
Saying stuff like “don't know why he thinks he's a girl, he's obviously not, idiot kid” type stuff and I honestly let it slide way more than I should have. But I would make a complaint to the boss once it got to much. The boss said they would talk to everyone. Well let's just say of course, the harassment got worse to where people would now shoulder check me and would talk more about me. I literally never spoke, I always was quiet and did my job I don't know why people had me in their target line.
Either way it got worse and I had made 5 reports and literally nothing had been done (I'm assuming since staff was so short and what not they couldn't edit schedules or whatever) finally on one closing night. (I had been singled out by this point, no one talked to me at all. With someone stating to my face “you're nothing but trouble” at times) either way on this night they were saying something along the lines of “yeah he should go back to being a boy ect.” I didn't really remember. But I had enough, I walked over to them and yelled “the next person to talk shit behind my back is getting their teeth smashed in”
Probably not the right thing to say tbh, but I had enough. Either way they got their way, I got reported for that and fired the next day.
Seems the manager kept it hush-hush as well cause he said he'd still give me a good reference but he “had to fire me”.
Was I in the wrong? Should I have done more to stay on my job?
Cause I actually really loved that job.
