I worked for this retail company for about a year and hated the store manager and my shift leader. They were both racist, constantly talked terribly about other workers, and made me feel incredibly stupid. Both were super close, and my store manager would overlook anything wrong the shift leader did.
To make things worse, my store manager would make blatantly racist comments saying how people of my ethnicity don't like to work, and would force me to do her manager duties like writing reviews and write-ups for my own coworkers. Then she would get mad if I didn't finish my work from that day.
My shift lead was also racist and would call black customers monkeys behind their backs, and one time he saw my Muslim Pakistani coworker talking and said “Aren't you from Iran where they behead people for talking too much?” My store manager knew of this but did nothing.
Then came a new employee, a perverted man in his late 30s who also happened to be stealing from the store. My manager herself told me that this guy would fill items in the trash and pretend to throw them out only to come back and pick them out of the bags after work. But she never reprimanded him, and I don't know why.
After a certain point, the shift lead began to harass me and would force me to buy him things so I complained to my store manager and a week later I was fired for giving my employee discount to a few non-family members WHICH the thief coworker also did while simultaneously stealing from the store.
The day I got fired both the store manager and shift lead warned the thief to stop what he was doing, and they were clearly happy when I walked out of the store. I kept my cool and began plotting justice.
After that day I wrote a 30-page long account of every racist, unethical comment all 3 of them made with dates, times, and names. I sent it to HR, the District Manager, and every higher-up I could find. This time I wasn't going to let them get away. 2 weeks later they conducted interviews with every employee I named and got testimonies from them, and every coworker of mine said they felt so good finally talking about what they endured. That day apparently my store manager and shift lead were running around scared because they had no idea what was coming for them. A day after the District Manager came and took my store manager into the office and they were in there for hours, and she came out crying. 2 days later the shift lead, and thief got fired, and a month later the store manager was also fired.
I also sought legal help which may have pushed the company further to get rid of them. But overall I was happy I didn't react when I was fired. I was a really good worker, and they were horrible and I got my justice not just for myself, but for my coworkers. Another coworker also took legal action, so they got hit with 2 lawsuits at once XD.
