I've been working at this company for more than 2 years. Nine months ago, I took on a new position, and things were going well. Then, when the weekend guy quit 2 months later, I thought, “I could step up and take on that responsibility.”
They've been promising me that they'll hire a new person to help me out for that entire time now. Since then, they've hired 3 other people in my department but for the week shift. The workload doesn't change, mind you, from week to weekend, if anything, it increases. I'm responsible for the preventative maintenance of our two largest machines. They expect me to perform all of my regular duties on top of all of the extra work. I might occasionally get some overtime help, but the days that I don't are excruciating.
The company has also not been providing me with the PPE. I need to not make my lungs turn to butter when handling dangerous chemicals. You better believe everyone on the week shift has it, even though they hired me before all of them.
So yesterday, in my futile attempt to try to do everything at once, my mind just shattered. I've never experienced anything like it. I was shaking and lost, and I just had to leave. I'm starting to feel this was by management's design. I filed an incident report, then left for home. Now they're calling me constantly and sending me emails. So far, I've responded with an email stating, “I prefer email communication, please, and thank you.” But that's all. I've just called the Ontario Health and Labor Board, but I'm not sure what to do next. I don't want to talk to those gaslighting liars, but I need my job. I actually like my job. That's what hurts. All I want to do is succedd in my work day, but they make it so hard. I have 3 vacation days left. I think I'll use them for this weekend. I need to not be there for a while.
What do I do? How do I move forward? How screwed am I legally?
