Antiwork

I had a near death experience, and now I work 60 hour work weeks.

I got a tonsillectomy because my tonsils were causing breathing problems. Two days after the operation my throat hemorrhaged and my girlfriend drove me to the emergency room. I was bleeding on and off until surgery. While waiting for the bleeding to stop my vision started to blacken, I became very cold, and sweaty. It was just my girlfriend and myself in the room at this point, so I looked at her and told her to press the assistance button.

I then woke up with three nurses, emergency blood injected in my arm, and a doctor asking “you still with me buddy” I just nodded. Eventually I was taken to emergency surgery and spent the night in the hospital. I lost somewhere between one quarter to one third of my blood.

After this I decided I need to live a full life, and work towards being happy, but after getting the bill for the EMERGENCY life saving surgery I have to work twelve hour days five days a week just to pay the bills (after insurance). No time to even do chores around the house let alone work towards a better life.

Why don't I make enough money to live and cover emergency bills, or have a reasonable amount of disposable income? Why is it that I spend so much on insurance every year, and still a hospital visit plunges me into debt? The system is broken and is in desperate need of reform.

I'm not here to ask for money, assistance, or sympathy. I'm just sharing my experience of the failed state of late stage capitalism, and low wages.
