I honestly can’t stand work life. I’ve been working for a year and a half after finishing school a little while before that and can’t stand work life. So many parts of the corporate world bother me on multiple levels. For one, every company wants to drain as much out of you as they can. They don’t care about you or your personal life. If they could get you to work 24/7 they would.
I could probably write an entire thesis on what’s wrong with corporate America, like how we spend more time with our coworkers than we do with our families. Or how we have a 5 day work week when there’s only 7 days in a week (makes no sense in my opinion). Or how if you have a child, you can’t pick them up from school and have to pay someone else to take care of your kid until you get home from work. I could go on and on.
But honestly the thing that bothers me the most is that I feel like I’m just wasting my time/life working. Yes, I understand I need to work as I need money to live but other than gaining financial fortitude, I feel like I’m accomplishing nothing. I feel like I’m helping my organization meet their goals and what not but, in all honesty, I really don’t care about their goals. I don’t care about what my company is setting out to do. All we’re accomplishing as an organization is making the rich richer which is just great lol.
I feel like the corporate world needs a big shake up and I hope one is coming. I’ve noticed that within my generation (20s), I’ve seen that many people share the same sentiments as me. I’ve noticed how our mindset has changed vs. the mindset of previous generations. For example, my parents’ generation views the employees company relationship as what can I do to help you as an organization? Whereas my generation views it as what can you as a corporation do to help me?
Hopefully change is coming soon but I doubt it. I just can’t imagine working like this for the next 40 years of my life because after a year and a half I’m more than ready to retire (and would love to if I could). I want to spend my life doing what I actually enjoy doing and hate that majority of my week is tied down to helping make the rich richer.
