As the title suggests, I'm going to be out for 6 weeks following a medically necessary surgery. The company I work for only hires part time employees (surprise, I'm one of them) so it wasn't a shock to find out that I'm not eligible for FMLA.
So now, with about one week until surgery, I'm being recommendes to resign and re-apply once I'm healed. However, anyone who doesn't give a two weeks notice is ineligible for re-hire. Shocking! No shit, company. This is starting to feel really shady.
S/O (who works in management) recommends I allow them to fire me and apply for unemployment. I do have documentation stating exactly how long I'll need, and paper proof they have received it. It's my understanding that in Illinois, if you're fired for absenteeism, you're not eligible for unemployment though. Worth the risk? Or do I just quit now and enjoy the week leading up to surgery.
Bonus points for how to best tell them to get fucked (after them hiding mold with the workers rights poster, I've been waiting for a way to tell them they're fucking garbage Imfao)
