I haven’t even started the job yet and the insanity has already begun.

I've been out of work since the beginning of June. I had an interview last Thursday that was full of red flags that are too tedious to go into. The position is one month to start but will convert to permanent “if all goes well.” I was originally recruited, so to speak, for another job at the company, but they deemed me unqualified for that position and wanted me for this other role. I was asked to complete an exercise after the interview, but I had to ask them on Monday to send it because they didn't do so on Friday like they said they would. They “loved my work” and made the offer Tuesday. When I sent the exercise back on Monday, I had also asked the Team Lead (TL) and Team Member 1 (TM1) three follow-up questions from the interview.

TM1 replied almost immediately.

On Tuesday, the HR rep asked me when I wanted to start. I said that was contingent upon when I get their equipment. She said she'd get with the IT guy and let me know the date.

I got the hiring paperwork today (Wednesday) from TM1. The contract said I was to start Thursday (tomorrow). I emailed TM1 to ask how I was supposed to start the job with no computer. “HR rep was mistaken; contractors use their own equipment.” I fully get that, and have worked in that setup before, but that's not what was said here. But cool, I'll switch gears on a dime for y'all's mistake.

Meanwhile, TL hadn't made time to answer my questions from Monday but had time to look me up on LinkedIn. She called me twice at 3:30 pm after texting me, I guess because she saw I was emailing about the hiring docs. I didn't answer any texts or calls. 1) You do not know me, so don't text me. 2) I do not have an executed contract, and I am so far filling out employment forms for free (I will be invoicing for my time).

TL then emails me at 6:30 pm to send me a meeting link for 9:00 am Thursday morning, but it actually is set for Wednesday morning (today). (The contract had the wrong month on it, too.) TL emails me again at 9:10 pm to tell me she tested positive for COVID and feels bad and won't be in the meeting Thursday morning, “but you can text Team Member 2.” TM2 emails me five minutes later at 9:15 pm to confirm TL sent me TM2's cell number.

I DON'T WORK FOR YOU YET! WTAF!!!
