A couple years ago, along with several other co-workers, I helped in organizing a union campaign in my workplace. We had more than half of the company sign cards, but the union we were affiliating with wouldn’t let us file for an election unless we had a threshold of 65% or something. VERY FRUSTRATING.
Anyways, we weren’t able to get to that number, and the company union busted hard and gave everyone a giant raise. Everyone who got scared or backed out believed the company’s lie that they gave us the raise because they were going to anyway, not because of the union. Anyways, that raise was the main victory out of the whole situation.
The cards are good for one year. In that one year period, my bosses were nice to me and maybe overly nice. I was one of the only public-facing organizers so I knew I was secretly hated by all of management. They faked their way all throughout that year, and fast forward to now, and it’s endless write-ups and “final warnings”.
I am almost positive they waited out the year to avoid lawsuits regarding retaliation, and now I’m just a target. I keep my head down, don’t socialize a whole lot with coworkers, work a lot of overtime, and I am extremely flexible with my time. However, they somehow seem to keep finding reasons to send me to the principals office. I had a final warning 6 months ago for “time theft” (they watched the cameras and added up all the time I wasn’t “working”) and today they wrote me up for a non-incident that happened 3 months ago!!! I hit something with a tow motor, immediately told the maintenance manager, and he said it was garbage anyway. Today, months later, I got a final warning for only telling one manager and not notifying ALL managers. Unbelievable snake bullshit. I called them out on it in the office but their excuse didn’t make sense but it didn’t matter. I’m not sure what to do, as I’m pretty sure all legal recourse regarding union retaliation has expired. I know they want to push me out so they don’t have to pay unemployment but I’m not going anywhere. Current plan of action is to start a union campaign…again!
