I was able to negotiate a 5 dollar raise by declining a job offer.

So this is a short story. I was working for a field technician company that made about 20 per hour. It had some good benefits, company van etc. I also had a company calling me to get me away from them offering me 23 an hour. I got through the hiring process but then near the start of onboarding I changed my mind. To make this less awkward not taking the job I told the second job that my job matched the offer. I hung up and said that was that. The recruiter from the second job panicked, kept calling me over and over asking if I would reconsider. I was thinking about just not answering until I did finally go ahead and answer. He came back with a counter offer of 25 plus day 1 benefits. So the guy was low balling me in the first place and I…

Tl;Dr – I got a job offer for a 3 dollar pay raise, I said no last minute, they panicked and raised it to 5 dollars. I took the job.
