Just transferred to a new job full time, mostly a man’s type job. Haven’t had any issues with the men, but the fellow aged women (50+) ask me today asked why am I working. My husband has been working for 28years in a government job & one of the women knows him & told the other female who my husband is & how much he makes.
They flat out ask why are you working and you can go back to your previous job if you want. I’m pulling my weight, but I feel like I’m imitating them. I’m doing the same job as them but still learning. I returned to work because after my husband retires we will lose our medical insurance. We have 2 adult children still on our medical insurance plan and I take a VERY EXPENSIVE MEDICATION and we can’t afford to lose our medical insurance.
I didn’t use my husband’s name or his experience to get my job, I just was truthful about needing medical insurance until I retired. His income shouldn’t effect my job or anyone else’s opinion of me.
I’m open to my medical issues and tell anyone who ask how much my meds cost which usually cost about 75,000$ a years & we are fortunate for coverage both the insurance & the drug company pays. Plus the medication WORKS for me.
This is my 2nd week and feel the ladies are trying to get rid of me. Fortunately we work mostly by ourselves and don’t mingle or see each other.
