I was given a final warning today.

I work at a high-end lifestyle brand resort owned by one of the bigger hotel corporations. I do quite a bit around the property so I'm assigned a key that unlocks all guest rooms and most doors. About three months ago, I misplaced it and it was found but I was never told about it. Over two weeks go by until it was mentioned to me casually by my manager. Keys being misplaced were commonplace at that point so I didn't think too much of it considering I wasn't initially told about it. Fast forward to a month ago, he calls me in to his office and let's me know that the higher ups want me punished. He downplayed it and told me he'd put it down as a “teaching moment”.

I said cool and went on my business.

Come today after my shift, he told me that HR and the GM were actively pushing for a bigger punishment. The GM said something along the line of I wasn't being fired but I needed a scare. My manager tried to get me out of it but unfortunately it was out of his control. I had to sign a paper that I acknowledged that I have a final warning.

I get it. I even signed the new policy sheet last year stating this. If the wrong person finds it then something bad could happen. What I find annoying is how it was handled. Before this happened, there were at least three days out of the week for a long period of time where I was running around trying to borrow another set of keys because the closer left it in their pocket or just straight up lost it. Nothing was ever done. When it happens to me, I literally get put on someone's agenda.

Honestly, I'm far past the point of caring. The thought of them losing the one person that does most of the work in one department because of some loosely followed policy makes me happy. The resort is a literally dumpster fire and I know it would only get worse if I was gone.

Great idea putting me on your shit list.
