I was just fired for sharing a spreadsheet where employees could share their salaries

Background: Working at Vermont Information Processing for the past 3-4 years. Software Engineer 3 and great relationships with my coworkers, top performer, etc. This morning around 10AM me and a few coworkers had the idea to create a form that would feed into a spreadsheet so that developers could (if they wanted to – anonymously) post their salaries in order to be transparent in the development department. Within an hour, my gmail account was disabled, and shortly after that my macbook was remotely disabled. Completely in the dark with the only contact being texting a few coworkers who also had no idea what was going on. 30 minutes later, I received a call from the director of development with the following (paraphrased): “We think it's in everyone's best interest that the our relationship ends here. This is due to poor attitude in the past and a misalignment of goals going…

Absolute insanity – don't trust your companies.
