I was terminated, but my work is just beginning.

As the title states, I was unceremoniously terminated from my position in the banking industry on Friday. While my employer may think they’ve seen the last of me, my work is just beginning. A few months back, I was involved in reporting a department manager to HR for workplace harassment and compliance violations, the manager was ultimately terminated, and remaining management made it immediately clear that they were not happy about losing the individual. Following the termination, my workload was conveniently increased to such an amount that one person could not possibly keep up— and I was also conveniently placed under a microscope that saw me receive disciplinary action for my inability to keep up with such an egregious amount of tasks. Following the termination, my workload was conveniently increased to such an amount that one person could not possibly keep up— and I was also conveniently placed under a microscope that saw me receive disciplinary action for my inability to keep up with such an egregious amount of tasks. Fast forward to Friday, I was called up to speak with management at the very end of the work day and unceremoniously notified of my termination. This was clearly retaliation for my involvement in the previously mentioned managers termination, and luckily for myself, I kept a journal of all questionable events and a paper trail of evidence to support my claims. My employer regularly violated NYS labor laws by forcing me to work beyond 6 hours without a lunch break, refused to allow me to gather my own personal items (some of which are missing and are believed to be either stolen or destroyed,) and for the cherry on top, would not allow me to punch out before leaving on my final day & are attempting to short me half a days worth of pay. I have reported them to the NYS Department of Labor as well as the US Department of Labor, and intend to seek out legal assistance after the holiday to file for retaliatory termination as well and unpaid wages. Has anyone else attempted to go after their former employer for something similar & how did it work out for you?
