I was told to grow up and take responsibility

This happened about a year after 9/11. I was working at the only national taco joint at the time and I was going through the process of joining the military. My recruiter had scheduled my ASFAB test and an intro physical fitness test on a Saturday night I was scheduled to work at the taco joint. I called my boss the night before to let them know, which they told me to call the manager, “Karen”, on the day of my shift. I called Karen 8 hours before my shift to let her know I had to cancel my shift for recruiting stuff.
