If you work, you get paid right?

I'm in Alberta, Canada. My new employer has a policy that you show up 15 minutes early, open up the store, and clock in at opening time. Same thing for closing up. Clock out at closing time, then spend 15 minutes closing up shop. My understanding is, if you work, you get paid, but I can't find any specific laws to that effect. Can someone tell me who is right and, if possible, provide proof?
