I work as an IT Support Analyst. Currently, I'm a contractor for a big University who shall remain unnamed. I have 2+ years experience, multiple certs, and am almost finished with my AS. I feel comfortable enough with this to resign and look for something else, or expand my weekend “hustle” of helping people locally with IT issues.
As of today, I'm resigning, because my health and mental state have taken such a hit working here that I'm constantly suicidal. My health is failing in multiple ways and I'm done sacrificing it to appease the corporate overlords.
I've been dragged along on false promises of a proper full-time position for almost the whole time I've been here. The person who kept trying to actually do something about it just quit last week, and now no one is. I found out a few months ago that I'd been actively lied to the whole time – they stopped doing contract-to-hire a few years ago.
So, no, I don't get nearly the same Healthcare coverage as everyone else, I don't get paid time off or holidays, I don't get any of that since I technically am an employee of my recruiter and not the university. And every time everyone gets something like a holiday bonus, I'm left out and it feels – othering.
I've been busting my ass to do my job with little help- they've been understaffed for years, according to my coworker. I've floated the idea of walking, but he can't – he's got 3 kids and he's the breadwinner. I don't blame him.
I'm really, really tired of this shit, though. I'm giving my two week notice today. Do you guys have any advice on what to do while I find some other way to make ends meet?
