In 2019, I started working my first out of college job at a fortune 100 company (entry level finance) making $80k. I’m still with that company today and my role converted to full time remote with the exception of needing to go into the office a few days per year.
Somehow I’ve managed to successfully convince my manager that my workload takes much longer to complete than it actually does. He never questioned me. I guess because my paycheck comes from the company’s pocket and not his he doesn’t really give a shit.
I found myself with too much time on my hands so decided to apply for a second job in 2021 to see if I could pull it off. And to my surprise it was actually way easier than I anticipated. The second job offered full 100% remote work at $90k. It’s also a large company (I don’t think it’s possible to pull this off at smaller companies) and I figured out ways to do my work much faster through automation / scripts but of course I will never tell my manager about that.
Despite having 2 simultaneous jobs up until recently, I decided to challenge myself with a 3RD JOB. I figured “what’s the worst that can happen?” If I couldn’t perform at my 3rd job I can just quit and I’d still have 2 jobs right?
Well, last month I started my 3rd job (another large company) which funny enough is a direct competitor with my 1st job 🤣.
All in all, I’m at nearly $300k base salary today plus bonus. I’m making basically what a senior VP makes except that I’m in my 20s.
A common question I get is what happens if I have conflicting meetings? Well my roles are not “meeting heavy” but if there’s a conflict usually I don’t need to speak in all meetings so I’ll just mute accordingly. If there’s a conflict that requires me to possibly speak in both (very rare) I’ll come up with some lame excuse and ask to reschedule. In the rare cases where I need to go into the office, I’ll book a day off from the other 2 companies. Nobody really cares.
I live with my parents, am investing 85-90% of my income, and plan to do this until my mid-30s until I “retire”. Once I “retire” I’ll probably work an easy low-stress job for 5-10 years to give my portfolio time to grow more without me having to touch it.
